Automated Report Card
Here is a sample of the report card that has been used at Alexandria for the past three years.
It is used both has a document that can be filled in by hand, or
one that can be generated on a Macintosh or Wintel computer. The Staff at
Alexandria began an effort to use another report card document after several
years of difficulty comunicating the content of the current form to parents
during conferences. Most Los Angeles Unified School District Elementary
schools use a form that has few clear letter grades, or none at all.
We have found that parents want and need to know how their children are performing in subject areas relative to grade level. Another benefit of our system is the easy access to a large bank of meaningful comments that can be inserted automatically, both in English and/or Spanish.
Teachers who have used this system for more than a year find that they can generate their student's cards more quickly than they could by hand, and enjoy the benefit of making corrections to a card without having to refill an entire card by hand as they previously were required to do with the NCR forms.
The final, and possibly most important benefit of this system for us has been the improved appearance and legibility of the document. When printed on a laser printer, all the comments are legible, and there are never any scratch marks that sometimes occur when the NCR forms are carried in briefcases and folders through and entire academic year,
